Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose when choosing a hotel. For once, Hotel Gappmaier in Saalbach was a big win. This family owned, three-star hotel, had everything a person could want for a 10 day stay. Big, comfortable rooms with gorgeous mountain views; buffets with different themes served three times a week; soup bar, salad bar, starter, choice from four daily main courses and dessert served at dinner. A gigantic breakfast buffet that had: ham, eggs, meusli, different yoghurts, cereal, fresh fruits (melons included), cakes, dried fruits, different meats, cheeses - brie, swiss, camembert, local hard cheese - pates, fresh joices, etc. Need I say that ex-Marine and I ate ourselves into a food coma daily?
Not only was there food quantity to the nth degree, but everything was fresh and delicious. A two block walk to the Saalbach lifts, and local ski buses from Hotel Gappmaier, and the friendliest owners who were always smiling and willing to assist.
Suitcases finally arrived and we were very happy campers.
